We were recently asked “what is the best way to get attention for a new blog?”

There are a number of strategies for boosting a new blog’s attention, however as with any online content, ensuring your efforts are sustainable and revenue-generating should be key-drivers.

Start with a blog that’s obviously worth having. Provide worth-while content and make sure there is enough of it on your blog before you start promoting. There’s no point bringing people into an empty store and get other people to do your marketing for you by writing content that’s worth sharing.

Look at relevant keyword searches through Google’s AdWords Keyword Tool and make a list of decent-volume terms that directly relate to your blog’s purpose. Use this list as a starting point for your initial content and focus on becoming an expert in your field.

Also ensure your blogging platform is setup to ping Google with updates, can provide track-backs to referenced articles and is updated regularly. Fresh, regular content will get Google coming back quicker than stagnant content and focus on getting links in from relevant blogs in your market.

You can also use social networks like facebook, twitter & linkedin to promote your blog articles, but make sure that your posts are part of a wider marketing plan. No-one likes spam!

And key to everything online, don’t rush it and don’t look desperate. It will take time, but focus on becoming a subject / industry leader.
